All About Mrs. LaPorta
Welcome!
My name is Denise LaPorta, and I am one of the AIG teachers here at White Oak Elementary. I grew up in upstate N.Y. (Rochester) and earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at the State University of New York at Geneseo. My masters degree in Elementary Education is from East Carolina University, and I received my National Board Certification in 2006, which I renewed in 2015. I finished my AIG certification in May of 2016 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
I have been teaching elementary students in various roles for over 20 years. I taught in Onslow County, and I've taught at Holly Springs Elementary, Turner Creek Elementary and now White Oak Elementary, here in Wake County. My 18 years of being a classroom teacher consist of 3 years in 3rd grade, 9 years in 4th grade, and 6 years in 5th grade. After having a child in 2013, I worked part time in different positions, at Turner Creek Elementary, such as a Read to Achieve teacher, the Explorers/AIG teacher, a home hospital teacher, an enrichment teacher and as a specialist, teaching all grades in a special called Discover, which focused on critical and creative thinking. This will be my fourth year as an AIG teacher here at White Oak Elementary.
An interesting fact about me is that I worked for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines for a couple of years as a youth leader. It was fun traveling and meeting people from all over the world, but I missed teaching and the stability of living on land. Besides being a mom to a first grade boy, I also enjoy running, yoga, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. My email is [email protected], and my twitter address is https://twitter.com/LaPortaDiscover. I am looking forward to getting to know you!
